What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis can be defined simply as a trance state of slower brain wave activity. In this state, we can align with our inborn capacity for increased focused attention and the quieting down of a busy brain.

Hypnotherapy can be defined as a utilization of this trance state to assist people in changing or modifying perceptions, thoughts, emotions and behaviours.

In clinical hypnosis, you are focused and aware of your environment.  People describe clinical hypnosis as a pleasant, calming, clearly remembered experience which involves a state of relaxed consciousness.

Research tells us that our brain waves automatically slow down to trance-state levels about every 90 minutes. In a Clinical Counselling Hypnotherapy session, we invite this natural brainwave state of calm awareness to expand and essentially, to paraphrase the Beatles: “speak words of wisdom”.

Why Hypnotherapy?

It’s never a one-size-fits-all. There are several different modalities that we use in counselling, and hypnotherapy is one of those. The distinction between hypnotherapy and other modalities is that it gains access to your subconscious.

Since you were born, everything that you’ve experienced has been recorded in your subconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy can be a very efficient way of releasing negative thoughts and emotions that can make us feel unhappy and inadequate, getting in the way of living a fulfilling life. Hypnotherapy can also influence and overturn certain behaviours that we don’t like about ourselves.

  • You will not receive hypnotherapy on the very first session. We will co-create together to support your goals.
