Anxious kids? Hypnotherapy can help them.
School is right around the corner and children, like adults, are feeling anxious for various reasons.
You might be asking yourself how can I help my child? How can I set them up for a successful school year?
Hypnotherapy can be a tool for children to gain control and discover solutions that they hadn’t thought about previously.
Because children are more attuned to the realm of fantasy and imagination than most adults, hypnosis serves as a natural bridge between their imaginations and the real-life stressors that contribute to anxiety, depression, physical symptoms, and sleep difficulties. (Lynn Lyons, Using Hypnosis with Children).
Hypnosis is not about controlling the child’s actions, but rather guiding the child toward a better sense of self-control. Teaching a child the skill of shifting her focus, changing the way the body feels, or reacting differently to a thought or situation is what hypnosis is all about.
I explain to the children:
Hypnosis is a fancy word for using your imagination to help yourself.
Children are taught imagery techniques that they can apply to help with their issues. The best imagery that can be used for hypnosis is based in the children’s experiences. Thus, imagery for a 6-year-old might involve a favorite cartoon character, while imagery for an adolescent might involve a beach.
What can hypnosis help with?
Anxiety
Depression
Pain, illness and medical procedures
Sleep problems
Expanding relationship with parents
Nail-bitting
Bedwetting
Bullying
Focusing
Anger
Grieving
and much more.
My goal is to use the power of imagination to help discover solutions.
How quickly does it work?
Depending on a child’s issues, hypnosis can sometimes work as quickly as during the first session, or may take several months to be effective.
Are parents involved in the sessions?
I leave it up to the children to decide whether they want their parents to accompany them. Younger children usually want their parents in the room.
Some parents are concerned that their child will be affected in a negative way by hypnosis. I reassure them by reminding them that the child is in control of their hypnotic state at all times.
Help your child expand their toolbox and cope with real-life stressors starting today.
